Our Take on Donovan McNabb

If anyone can figure out if Donovan McNabb is washed up or not, please let me know because I don’t have a clue. If you break the 2008 season into thirds, Donovan’s passer rating for the first third was 93.5, the second third his average was 63.98 and the final third his average was 101.22. Sprinkle in a benching and have a truly confusing 2008 season which, somehow, was a smashing success. In any event, McNabb enjoyed his best statistical season since 2004 when he guided the Eagles to the Super Bowl. Conventional wisdom says that McNabb still has a lot to prove on the football field. If that’s the case, why is there weird tension between him and Kelvin Kolb?
With receivers like Kevin Curtis, Desean Jackson, and Reggie Brown, McNabb has the most potent receiving line-up of his career. Still, at the age of 32, entering his 11th season and the growing distrust of Andy Reid, McNabb just might be on thin ice. Should the Eagles jump out to a quick start going 4-1 or 5-0 heading into week Conference play in week 7, McNabb is a safe bet. However, if he sputters out of the gate and loses to the Raiders or Chiefs in the opening weeks, the cry for Kolb will be loud.
