Our Take on Ben Roethlisberger
by Skipster McNernie
After exploding in 2007 with 32 TDs, many people thought that Ben had broken through to the upper echelon of fantasy QBs….then 2008 happened. Despite winning yet another Super Bowl (2 Super Bowls before he even turned 27) Ben took a mammoth step backward in his QB progression and had a year that we had come to expect from him. Once again, he proved to be a QB that manages the game and wins but doesn’t put up huge numbers. Good for the Steelers, bad for fantasy owners.
Unless he repeats 2007, I’m inclined to consider that season a random fluctuation. There’s no denying that Ben is a great QB, but perhaps to expect more than 20 TDs from him a season is too much to ask. The law of averages says that Ben will stay right in his wheelhouse and throw 17-20 TDs this season along with 10-15 INTs – no more, no less. The Steelers didn’t do anything in the offseason that would make me think these numbers will change so I would take them to the bank.
