Stafford is not the best player available in this draft. He is however the best player at a position of need for the Lions. They need a QB in the worst way and Stafford has played in an NFL style offense while at Georgia. He has the strongest arm available in a draft prospect since J. Russell who also went first overall in the draft. He can make every single NFL throw. The problem I have with him is that he doesn't make them consistently. His deep ball isn't very accurate relative to some of the high QB draft picks we have seen over the years. He also is prone to throw dumb INT's that make you wonder what he was thinking. However, in the end he is the most NFL ready QB available for a team that has nowhere to go but up.

A. Curry is still the best player available in the draft but since the Rams have released O. Pace they obviously put a higher value on OT's than LB's. I can't say that doesn't make sense as I thought more about it. Monroe has got a good wing span and moves lateraly well in pass protection. He is however prone to mental mistakes and isn't dominant at run blocking. Yet with the type of blocking scheme the Rams currently use his agility will be a great asset.

Do not have a strong presence at ILB for their new 3-4 scheme so Pioli can be at ease knowing he is taking the best player available that coincidently fits a position of need. Curry can do everything a team could want in a LB, and he does it all better than everyone else on a consistent basis. He's an outstanding tackler who can consistently shed blocks, which is fast becoming a lost art in the NFL. He has great instincts in coverage, keeping himself in position to intercept an imperfect pass. He's also a great blitzer. Curry is just the guy to stabilize the middle of the field for the Chief for a long, long time.

M. Crabtree has drawn favorable comparisons to C. Johnson of the Lions for good reason. They are both big, physical WR's with great hands. They differ in that coming out of college Johnson's hands rivaled that of L. Fitzgerald while Crabtree's aren't quite that good. I also don't think Crabtree has as much straight line speed. Crabtree does however run better routes and the big distiction is YAC. Crabtree has the YAC ability of A. Boldin and is guaranteed to break at least one tackle before he goes down. The Seahawks need a big, physical guy like this in their offense. In fact, they've needed him for years.

Would E. Mangini really risk taking another athletic rookie DE and try to convert him to an OLB in his defense? I'm sure he realizes that's where the majority of 3-4 OLB's come from so he may as well take the risk for a guy like Orakpo. Orakpo has a very quick first step and has the speed to get around OT's. He doesn't have as wide of an array of pass rushing moves as E. Brown and doesn't do quite as good of a job against the run, but in this 3-4 defense he should really shine. Orakpo will have an easier time making the transition to OLB than Gholston did.

***Buyer Beware*** I'm actually surprised M. Lewis is still coaching this team, but this isn't the platform to discuss that. I believe the decline in the Bengal's offense is due to poor play by the O-line. When C. Palmer left that preseason game with a bloody nose I knew it was only a glimpse of things to come that season. L. Jones has been playing at a high level prior to last season, but with C. Wells' average 40 time at the combine Smith becomes the best value available. Smith was in great shape at the Combine and really looks the part of a NFL LT. He's a good enough pass protector but not a great run blocker. He did not always play as well on the field as he looks in shorts, but he has the potential to be the best OT in this draft.

Cleveland Browns

***Buyer Beware*** Al Davis should've opted for a LT here instead of going with K. Barnes, but we'll see after this season which was the wiser move. The Raiders need an elite WR as bad as any team in the league. I don't have Maclin rated quite as high as Al Davis more than likely does because he doesn't seem to be tough enough to run every route, which is something I want to see out of a WR that I would give top 10 pick money. By the end of the season last year he didn't even appear to be the go to WR in the offense. He didn't consistenly perform well going over the middle, either getting balls knocked loose or not fighting for the ball consistently. But with his speed, dependable hands and return ability he is worth this pick.

The Jaguars D was simply not the same after they lost M. Stroud to the Bills. Raji is just the type of player to plug up the middle in the Jaguars defense. Raji is the best DT available in this draft and he's a great fit at NT in either a 3-4 or 4-3. He would never have to come off the field as he can use his functional strength in rushing the passer as well as he uses it in stopping the run. He can routinely take on two blockers and still make an impact. This one guy is going to make the other 10 guys on defense look a lot more talented.

|
The Packers have big needs to fill on defense especially since they will likely run 3-4 on certain downs with D. Capers as the new D-Coordinator. C. Woodson and Al Harris are too old to hold down the fort forever. Jenkins is the best DB available in this draft and has the instincts, agility, speed and ball skills to pose a good matchup with any WR in the league. He has good size, is a great leaper and is also a solid tackler. He has fallen a few spots only because of his fairly average time in the 40 at the combine. Jenkins is the next product of a school that has a long history of producing NFL calibur DB's.

It looks like the 49ers are ready to move on from A. Smith so they will be looking for a QB to stabilize their offense. Sanchez is a fairly consistent QB with accuracy, good arm strength and toughness. It's tough to give an in-depth assessment of Sanchez because he really only got one good year of playing time for the Trojans. From a financial standpoint he made the right decision to come out this year because there isn't much talent aside from him and Stafford in this draft class.

With J. Peters now an Eagle the Bills' highest priority becomes LT. Oher is equally adept in the run and passing game, but his play is up and down. He has very quick feet and is always in position to make the play, but sometimes he isn't quite as stout at the point of contact or gives up the inside move when has the potential to dominate on every down. Whether he has reached his full potential or not, he is still worth selecting at this spot over any other player.

With the new 3-4 Nolan will implement they will need fast pass rushers at OLB to make plays. Brown did a great job at the combine and proved why he deserves to be taken at this position. He has a very high motor and an array of pass rushing moves for getting to the QB. He also does a pretty good job of defending the run. He chases ball carriers from behind and plays to the whistle. Stamina may be a concern on the next level but with a good strength & conditioning coach he should be fine.

L. Fletcher has been a good leader and player but his age finally started to show last season. Maualuga finally hears his name called at this spot. He slides this far due to the fact that he doesn't appear to be very agile, which will affect him in pass coverage and in the pursuit of shifty ball carriers on the next level. He is however a great fit stopping those runs up the middle that the Redskins were so vunerable against. The 'skin like high motor guys with power that play aggressively. That's Maualuga to a T. He sheds blockers well, is an effective blitzer and has reliable hands when he gets near the ball. He will fill the physical, emotional and leadership void that this team has been missing since the passing of S. Taylor.

M. McKinzie is just plain getting too old to be counted on for an entire season. J. David is up and down and T. Porter has yet to prove himself so the Saints would be wise to invest a high draft pick in a CB. Davis is a great man coverage corner. He shifts his hips well and is good at shadowing a receiver. He also has good hands and is a good tackler.

|
The Texans have needed help in their secondary...well, from their beginning. They continue to upgrade their D-line without putting enough emphasis on the CB's and safeties. I believe safety is a bigger need but none are worth taking here so they go with Butler. Butler is another good man coverage guy, but the main difference I see between he and Davis is that Davis is a more aggressive tackler. However, Butler is still a gifted ball hawk.

San Francisco 49ers

|
***Buyer Beware*** His reputation as a can't miss talent evaluator has been on a decline since 2006, but taking Cushing here could turn things around. Cushing is a big, strong thumping type of LB. I've seen him not just shed a tackle, but run through an OG on his way to making a tackle. He's available here because he doesn't shift well in coverage and isn't a ball hawk. However, the way he'll be used here I don't think he will need to be as he will mainly be blitzing and playing close to the line of scrimmage.
