The great news for Chicago is that they FINALLY have a QB. Te bad news is that they don’t have very many weapons for Jay Cutler in place. I like Derrick Williams here as I think he could fill a hole at WR. He is a quick player who had a decorated career at Penn St as one of the more explosive players in the country. Williams ran slow at Indy (which pushes him to the bottom of the 2nd round), but I think we all know what he can do with a football in his hand and his Pro Day went better for him. If I am the Bears I do whatever I can to move up and get a player like Britt, Kicks, or Robiskie. However, the Bears don’t have a lot of trade ammo and the best they can do after that is Derrick Williams.

THIS PICK BELONGS TO CLEVELAND VIA TRADE FOR KELLEN WINSLOW Shady McCoy drops on my board a bit. A very decorated NCAA star, McCoy was the best player on his Pittsburgh team and carried that Offense. Although I love his moxy and his ability to pound the ball and also be shifty, I cannot see him as an elite RB in the NFL. His Pro Day didn’t floor anyone, probably securing his spot in Round 2. He is a real nice player who in Round 2 can be a 10+ carry RB for a team. Cleveland has Jamal Lewis but would probably like to spell him. Jamal Lewis-James Harrison-LeSean McCoy is the makings of a nice trio of RB’s for Cleveland. A good value grab here for a team that will likely need to run the football more next year.

The Cowboys are a mess right now and the only way they are going to be able to get it back together is by showing up next year and actually stopping teams. They were embarrassed at the end of last year and need to get a handle of their Secondary. Roy Williams was finally let go and Ken Hamlin might be next if he puts together another season like the one he had in 2008. Safety is an obvious area of concern for America’s team and I think they should grab the very best one available (Free or Strong) with their first pick in the Draft. Arguably the best pure Strong Safety in this class, Chung is a nice player who can cover (with limitations) but most importantly play up in the box and deliver a hit. Widely regarded as one of the best Safety prospects this year, Chung has great value here in the tail end of Round 2 and fills the biggest need in Dallas as Roy Williams replacement.

There is a real defined need for the 5 technique DE for the Jets 3-4 scheme. Youth and talent is needed for this spot and you have to believe Rex Ryan would love to add another big body up front. Jarron Gilbert is a bit raw but has a lot of upside as a 3-4 DE/T. Probably a bit of a project, Gilbert is the type of player that, if you groom him right, will pay major dividends down the road. A good value in the middle of the second round, and if you don’t believe me check out his athleticism on You Tube.

Jared Cook’s Indy performance may have won me over. In this Draft full of solid TE’s, Cook ranks high up there for me because of his natural ability as an athlete. His numbers are astounding; he is 6’4, 245 lbs and ran a 4.50. Not to mention he vertical jumped 41 inches and benched 225 lbs 23 times. That alone makes you a first day pick. What I don’t like about him is that he is more of a WR than a TE. He can’t block at all, so his value is solely as a Pass catcher. This is just fine for a team like Philly, as their TE isn’t expected to be anything but that. Brent Celek may have come out of nowhere, and although he is a fine player, his success has more to do with Offensive philosophy than anything else. The Eagles spread their WR’s out and their RB’s are always a threat out of the backfield making the TE position more of a free release 1-on-1 match-up with crossing routes than anything else. Add a player with Cook’s ability to that scheme and you essentially have another WR on the field. He fits well here and if he taps his potential could be a very good find in Round 2 for this squad and a more than adequate replacement for LJ Smith, who is now a Raven.

What I like about Phil Loadholt is that we know exactly what he is: a mammoth OT (6’7, 335 lbs) with long arms, a wide base that will excel in the Running attack. With Loadholt will struggle with speed and plays inconsistent, but he offers great depth and a real good amount of upside. He is a bit over-rated in my book but at the end of Round 2 he has great value as a R OT. A definite upgrade over converted Center Ryan Cook, I can Loadholt being a mauler for Adrian Peeterson and the Viking run game.

*THIS PICK BELONGS TO KANSAS CITY VIA TRADE FOR TONY GONZALEZ* Connor Barwin was one of the biggest winners at the Combine as he took advantage of his opportunity to showcase his ability on a national stage. At 6’3 and 255 lbs, Barwin impressed with a 4.66 40 time and looked very natural and fluid in drills. He is a converted TE, who will likely translate to a Pass Rusher in a 3-4 scheme. He is highly athletic, and although a bit raw, will translate well into a 3-4 Pass Rusher (a bit too undersized to be a 4-3 DE). He has real nice value here as well, as some believe he is a high 2nd rounder because of his sheer ability. The Chiefs have a lot of needs, but their biggest is probably at rushing the passer. Barwin is likely a year away from being a starter but he can learn behind Mike Vrabel and develop into a nice player for the future for KC.

This is the ideal place for Pat White. To me he would best fit as a Wildcat QB, which the Dolphins run better than anyone. Ronnie Brown did a great job at it last year, but adding a QB into the mix will make this Offense that much more deceptive. Do I think Pat White will be a QB for the Dolphins? Absolutely not, Chad Henne is the future and Chad Pennington is the present. So why do I have him here? Because the Dolphins need the best WR available and at this point that is still Pat White. Think a poor man’s Antawn Randle-El, when you think of Pat White. I know he only wants to play QB, but he will be given that opportunity plenty in the Wildcat for the Dolphins.

With their next 2nd round pick I think the Ravens should draft the best WR possible. I am a bit higher on Iglesias than most as I think he can be a solid #2 WR in the NFL. He has great hands and runs great routes. He is not a game breaker by any means but is the highest rated WR left in my mind. Derrick Mason is not going to be around forever so adding a compliment to Clayton and Demetrius Williams is an area of need for this team.

Fili Moala was considered a universal 1st rounder 12 months ago (and top 10 pick by many experts) but has fallen real bad since that time. He is considered more of a scheme player these days and has been pigeon-holed as a Tampa 2 DT, but I think that is very short sided. He is an agile and athletic big man who is under-rated for his strength. I think he could fit well as a 5 technique in the 3-4. A value grab for the Pats who could afford to add some depth to their D Line rotation.

The Carolina D Line has gone from a strength to a weakness over the past season. Ideally they would like to grab a DE here, but I don’t see one available that will make an immediate impact. I am higher on Marks than a lot of others, and believe that had he stayed in school he would have been a 1st rounder next year. As a matter of fact, I had him in the 1st round for quite some time this year, but through the scouting process he became more exposed as a 2nd round pick. What I like about Marks is his natural athleticism. He is quick for a big guy, has nice explosion, has long arms and also has the ability to penetrate as a Pass Rusher. What holds this big fella back is that he is not very stout at the point of attack against the run. He is a bit squatty to a degree and needs to get stronger. Carolina could add some depth to their DT rotation and this guy grades out higher than a lot of prospects left on the board.

Heading into this past NCAA season William Moore was the consensus #1 Safety and a 1st round pick. A lack of production his senior year exposed some flaws in the Safety, but my money is still on him as far as him being a starter in the NFL. What I like about Moore is that he has the ball skills of a Free Safety, but can also play in the box like a Strong Safety. He is a real nice athlete, who if he plays to the level he showed as a junior, would be a major steal at the end of round 2. His versatility will really go a long way with New York as he can be a valuable Free Safety back-up to Kenny Phillips and possibly push Michael Johnson for time at SS.

As mentioned before the biggest need for Indy is DT. Magee is a disruptive player that will be a main stay against the run. He doesn’t have a whole lot of upside but he is definitely my best DT on the board. It isn’t like Bill Polian to grab a need over value, but in the end of round 2 I don’t think he will have much of a choice as the talent at DT drops off considerably after Magee.
  62. -
The Titans are known to grab the best player available and a guy like Sidbury is a nice investment for the Titans strength, which is their D Line. Jevon Kearse has another year or two left in the tank, but finding a pure pass rusher to mix into the rotation would be nice perk for this team in Round 2. Sidbury is a small school standout with good size and a very nice 40 time at 4.6 for a DE. Don’t be surprised if Sidbury goes higher than this.

Eric Wood is a real nice player who in any other year may be considered the best Center in his class. He is smart, strong, quick, and what I like most is that he finishes his blocks and has a mean streak. Mike Mayock has been raving about him for some time now and I am buying the hype. Lyle Sendlein played valiantly last season as the replacement for Al Johnson, but he is definitely not a starting Center. I like him a lot and think he offers some versatility at OG as well. A definite upgrade for the interior of Arizona’s O Line and a nice value here, as this year’s crop of Center’s is pretty deep.

As mentioned before CB is a need for the Steelers now that Bryant McFadden is with Cardinals. They have 3 guys they like but could afford to add some depth. DJ Moore had a terrific career and showcased his abilities at the NCAA level. He made more of an impact last year than this year, but his talent is undeniable. He is a ball-hawking cover guy and I think he would be a nice Nickel CB addition. His height (or lack thereof) is a little scary but I really like him here as a solid contributor.
