Michael Johnson was a consensus top 15 pick early this season and dropped because his tape doesn’t match up to his natural skill set. Although he is a high risk in Round 1, I think his ability is well worth a late 1st/early 2nd selection. Johnson has everything you want physically in a Pass Rushing DE. At 6’6, 270 lbs, Johnson runs a 4.7 and posted 29 reps at 225 lbs. He is long, explosive and when he plays to his ability is highly effective at getting to the QB. Teams are likely to fall in love with his potential so he may be gone in the 1st round, but if he isn’t he would be a nice pick up here for Detroit. They have major needs at DE and Johnson could become the Pass Rush specialist they desperately need. In shorts, Johnson is one of the most impressive players in this class, if he can somehow manage to play to his ability he will be a steal here.

Louis Delmas is my best Safety in this class and could go in the first round. He is versatile enough to play either the Free or the Strong Safety spot as he has both speed and the ability to bang up in the box for run support. He is a great tackler and big hitter with nice instincts and a real physicality that I like to see in. In fact he might be too aggressive, which can get you killed when you play centerfield, especially in the NFL where everyone can run fast. He reminds a bit of Rodney Harrison who he would ultimately be replacing.

This is an absolute steal for St Louis. The Rams waived Tory Holt and need a compliment to Donnie Avery. Avery is a burner so a big target like Nicks makes a lot of sense here for the Rams. What I really like about Nicks is his body control, ball-skills/hands and ability to get YAC (yards after the catch). However, he falls out of Round 1 because there are some concerns about his weight and break away speed. If he is here this is a no-brainer for St Louis.

Everette Brown is the best pure Pass Rusher in this draft, and his ultimate fit is in the 3-4. Brown is a terrific athlete with great quickness and explosion and under-rated strength. A true tweener, he has good size, and more importantly he has great closing speed off of the edge. I don’t like him very much as a 4-3 DE as I think he is too undersized and I don’t think he is very good against the run. As a Pass Rush OLB though he has good value and could ultimately replace the Willie McGinnest. I had Brown as high as #9 at one point so his stock has really tumbled. He has a lot going against him and I think people are nervous about him because he is undersized for a 4-3 DE and he appears to be a little too stiff to play in space in the 3-4. Not to mention that the track record for undersized Florida St DE’s is absolutely disastrous, which kills him as well. His value in Round 2 is awesome and Cleveland really shouldn’t let him pass them by as he can be a major sack artist at the next level.

Rashad Johnson is likely to project to Free Safety as he has incredible ball skills and real nice range. A definite Cover Safety, I wouldn’t confuse Johnson with an in-the-box banger. Maybe more of a CB in a Safety body, Johnson is my #2 rated Safety who could play centerfield for the Seahawks. I don’t like their Free Safety position as it stands with Brian Russell and I think a player like Johnson is worth the slight reach to solidify that spot.

Laurinitus might be one of the best Buckeye LB’s to come out of that storied program, but he falls on my board because there are some legitimate questions about his speed. On tape he looks like an All Pro, but so did Andy Katzenmoyer, another Buckeye great. In the very top of Round 2 he has tremendous value and fills a hole for Cincinnati at ILB. Laurinitus is a flat out football player. He has a high football IQ, is very instinctive, closes well and makes tackles. If they grabbed him here it would be considered a steal and would really be well received by the Ohio faithful.

The Jags are really hurting for Offensive Line help. The reason for their collapse this year had more to do with their inability to run the ball and stop the run as injuries along their O Line really hurt this team last season. William Beatty is probably not a house hold name to the common fan, but he has a lot of talent and has caught the eyes of many scouts. He played for Uconn so he isn’t well known, but his frame, athleticism and feet all point towards future NFL L OT. Some have him pegged as a late 1st rounder, but I think that might be premature. Beatty is probably not an immediate contributor, and is a player that will develop into a Pro with some more technique and more bulk on his frame. Maybe a gamble in Round 1, he has nice value in Round 2 as a future L OT, especially for Jacksonville who need to find depth/insurance behind Tra Thomas and Anthony Pashos.

Ziggy Hood is one of the higher rated DT’s in the draft. He is a highly productive player with a big motor. He is strong at the point of attack and doesn’t give up ground. The Raiders have major needs at DT outside of the highly overpaid Tommy Kelly, as Terdell Sands and William Joseph leave much to be desired. A good value here in Round 2, as a DT investment is always a wise choice on the first Day. I wouldn’t be shocked if Ziggy Hood ended up going at the bottom of Round 1, but the top half of Round 2 is where his true value really is.

As mentioned before the OT situation for Green Bay is in need of some help. Chad Clifton is well in his 30’s and Tony Moll has not yet shown he is up for the job. Jamon Meredith is a nice prospect from South Carolina who has real nice feet and is also very strong. He is probably not a mauler, but definitely not a push over either. Meredith has some versatility and can kick into OG if needed. I don’t know if he is the solution at R OT, but he is the best OT left on the board.

Shawn Nelson has been climbing Draft boards as of late and more of it has to do with his Senior Bowl performance than anything else. Everyone knew he was a Pass Catching TE, but at the Senior Bowl he impressed with his ability to get after it in the blocking game. His performance and Combine was good enough to promote him to my #2 rated TE. Buffalo lacks a TE presence and I see it as their biggest need heading into 2009. Nelson can be that missing part of their Offense. With him T.O., Lee Evans and Marshawn Lynch; I can see the Bills having a very improved Offense.

Brian Robiskie has been called under-rated for so long now that he is almost bordering over-rated status at this point. He is a coach’s dream, with a high football IQ, great intangibles, outstanding character and blood lines from an NFL WR coach (meaning he will be ready sooner than most). He has nice size (6’2), great hands and ran a surprisingly good 40 time at 4.5, securing his place in the top half of the 2nd round. Probably more of a possession guy, Robiskie would be a nice #2 WR and would likely be the ultimate heir to Isaac Bruce.

Clint Sintim comes from Al Groh’s Defense at Virginia which is to his big advantage, as the Cavaliers are one of the only NCAA teams to run a true 3-4 scheme. Sintim is a great talent who would be a nice compliment opposite Joey Porter for the Fins. He doesn’t have good timed speed but he is very good at rushing the passer and is physical against the run. A real solid tackler and decent cover man, I think he has what it takes to succeed in a 3-4. A borderline 1st rounder Sintim has nice value here for a Dolphin team that really needs more ammunition on the outside.

This would be a nice addition for New York. A versatile Offensive Lineman with great value. Max Unger is arguably the best Center prospect in this class, but what makes him valuable is that he can play 4 Offensive line spots if needed (everything but L OT). This is the type of versatility the Giants love, not to mention the fact that they are short on depth on their O Line. Unger is by no means a reach here and would fit well as the sixth lineman for this team.

DT is a cause of concern for Houston. I view Ron Brace as the best Nose Tackle in this draft and I believe that his massive body and strength will add value for a team looking for 1 gap run stuffer. Although there might be more pressing needs the Texans need to get better on Defense and their DT rotation outside of Travis Johnson and Amobi Okoye is old and in need of improvement. Brace’s stock is exaggerated because there aren’t a lot of big body DT’s in this class so he gets pushed up on my board a bit because of that.

Alphonso Smith is a real good player, who if he was 5’11 (instead of 5’9) would be a lock for the 1st round. He is a fluid athlete with great instincts, speed and also has very fluid hips. He is a tough competitor who plays hard and isn’t afraid to man-up. At the tail end of Round 1 he is a bit of a reach, but is my best CB left on the board and a real good player. He most likely will fill in only in Nickel his first year, but I can see him being a contributor down the road. The Patriots have a long standing need at CB and could look to add this talent here in Round 2. I am not super crazy about having the Pats pick up another short CB, but his value is well worth a mid 2nd round pick.

Defense once again for Denver here. Denver cut CB Dre Bly this off-season leaving a big hole at CB. Although they signed Andre Goodman they still have major depth needs at CB. Sean Smith is an intriguing player out of Utah St who has nice value early in Round 2. He has nice size for a CB and what I like about him is that he also has excellent ball skills. Some see him as a Safety at the next level, but I think he could be a nice compliment at CB. He is my highest rated CB on the board, and I think it would be wise if Denver took him here as there are not a lot of good CB’s in this class.
