TIME TO INSERT SOME TRADES!
Please note that some corrections will be explained in red due to players missing from the database & the pick order being wrong on FFJungle.com. I hope to avoid this next year by having my own site up and running!
With a week to go this choice is still very much up for debate. Stafford and Smith are the favourites, but the Lions are posturing with Curry in a power move to get a contract done prior to the draft. After an 0-16 season the Lions need to use this pick to set a direction & future for this team and I think selecting Stafford does this better.
Unfortunately for anyone try to put a mock together, if this selection is other than what you predict, the domino effects for the rest of the draft are profound.

The Rams have committed to rebuilding with the cutting of Pace & Holt. Replacing Holt at this point of the rebuilding process is premature, they need to solidify the lines & Smith is a good choice to start. The only players I see upsetting the choice of a left tackle are the two quarterbacks. However if Bulger can stay healthy he has enough left to hold the fort for the year till next year's QB class.

Arguably the best prospect in the draft is a perfect fit for one of the Chiefs needs, especially after fortifying the offense with the acquirement of Cassel. They have enough on offense with Cassel, Bowe & Johnson to allow Pioli & Haley to focus on the defensive side of the ball. Only concerns about the offensive lines could have the Chiefs wavering, but I don't see this happening.

A lot of mocks still have the Seahawks taking Crabtree. It is not the acquirement of Houshmandzadeh that has me shying away from this, but the higher priority that is keeping Matt Hasselbeck healthy. Add that to the fact that they will have a multitude of other WRs coming back from injury they only need one to stay healthy to be set at the position.

The Browns need a pass rush in the worst way, 17 sacks in a season is woeful. Even with the Stallworth situation clouding things, unless they trade Edwards I don't see them going WR, even with Crabtree on the board. Orakpo is quick enough and clever enough to play as an OLB and not just with his hand in the dirt and shouldn't be a liability in short distance pass coverage. Pressurising opposing QBs will play into one of the few strengths of this defense, ability to intercept the ball.

Like the Browns, the Bengals also have pass rushing needs, but losing Stacey Andrews will force them to prioritise the offensive line. Drafting a top tackle early will allow them to play around with the line to get a group able to function & protect their most valuable asset, Carson Palmer.
Despite his much publicised errors, (suspended for bowl game, disappearing from the combine), A. Smith is a talent and if properly motivated will hold down the LT spot for years to come.

Predicting what Al Davis will do is like choosing horses with a race card and a drawing pin. The sensible pick would be offensive line to protect his two previous 1st rounders. The logical pick would be to choose the consensus best WR to complete his triumvirate of 1st round playmakers.
However Davis likes his athletes with stand out measurables and the WR that stood out in this year's combine was Heyward-Bey. Al is going to fall in love with the 6'2" coupled with the 4.25 40 time. |

TRADE - Washington Redskins Send the #13, #80 & #150 to Jacksonville for the #8 pick Snyder pulls the trigger on he Sanchez infatuation. Don't think Campbell deserves this treatment, but Snyder does what Snyder wants!

Most picks for the Packers this year will most likely concern their transition to a 3-4 defense. This pick will come down to a choice between the best player for the system or addressing the greatest need. Although B.J. Raji seems to be an obvious selection here, GB have Ryan Pickett who has the size to play NT in a 3 man front. If they draft Raji, it is hard to conceive a 3-4 defense containing them both. One would be wasted.
What they lack is two defensive ends capable of playing the 5-technique. It's already a risk hoping Harrell can make the conversion without not addressing the other side. Selecting Jackson here is not a stretch and he will quickly become a key element to the new D. |

| The 49ers have greater needs, but Crabtree represents such good value here and Singletary is no fool, so I wouldn't expect him to turn his nose up at this gift. |

After the Peters trade, offensive tackle now become the #1 priority for the Bills. They will get better value on other needs with their second 1st round selection.
The spanner in the works will be a run on offensive tackles in the top ten, especially if the Lions snub the Stafford route. |

| Thanks to the Redskins trade, the centerpiece to the Broncos 3-4 defense falls into their lap and they whip Raji of the board in a flash. |

TRADE - Redskins to Jaguars
After trading down the Jaguars no only get two extra picks, but get a good fit at a position of need for a cheaper contract. All around a good piece of business for Jacksonville. |

The only offensive pick I could see here is Chris Wells, but the tandem of Reggie Bush & Pierre Thomas should be good enough for their pass orientated attack.
Instead addressing a secondary, that has been the weak link in the team over the past few years should be the way to go. By selecting Malcolm Jenkins, even if he doesn't make the grade as an NFL CB, he will address an alternative need at free safety. |

Another team that looks set on one side of the ball. It is hard to see who they would bring in to improve a potent offense that can already rack up the yards and just needs to learn to punch the ball into the end one.
With the focus on defense getting a young LB to with leadership skills to bring a young group together. With Ryans at MLB & Adibi at WLB, Cushing will complete a young talented trio at the SAM position. |

| TRADE - San Diego send the #16 & #78 picks to Seattle for the #37 pick, #178 pick & Seattle's 2010 1st round.
With Tampa, Denver and NYJ all sitting there waiting to pounce Seattle jumps the queue to grab Freeman. San Diego are more than willing trade partners as with few needs and no value at an area of need, it allows them to put an extra 1st rounder in their pocket to address future needs. Freeman gives caver the injury prone Hasselbeck and allows the Seahawks to develop the young QB before throwing him in at the deep end. |
